Wokefield Park in Berkshire has recently added a relaxing outdoor break-out space to compliment their existing two storey internal main circulation area known as ‘The Street’.
Vear Building Services were approached to develop the clients concept design by creating a modern and aesthetically pleasing space, opening ‘The Street’ out by means of bi-fold door sets.
Our brief entailed the removal of an existing tired shingle courtyard by removing the top surface and replacing with an aesthetically pleasing patio featuring ‘millboard’ decking. This was complimented by a matching privacy screen and seating / planter unit. Supports for feature parasols were installed at the groundworks stage.
The external elevation of the ‘The Street’ was removed and a major, integral structural steel framework designed and installed inclusive of all foundations and related making good works. Vear then fitted bespoke compliant bi-fold door sets with matching flashings including adaptation of transition levels to maintain full accessibility.
Our mechanical and electrical division carried out alterations to the existing heating services and electrical installations consisting of power for the parasols and an LED festoon lighting scheme.
The project posed particular challenges when working around the operations of a live hotel. Close liaison with the hotel management by means of early engagement provided a framework to overcome the projects unique difficulties.
Despite accommodating various client events and exhibitions, handover of the project was completed within tight time constraints to facilitate a pre-arranged event.
