The project started with the demolition of the existing garden centre, with only the original water tower dating back to the 1920s still standing, which was given a bit of help to bring it back to itsformer glory, including, a full restoration of the pump engine by Kew Steam museum. Also included is a new children's play area complete with climbing frame and slide.

The brief was to give maximum retail space, whilst at the same time, being sympathetic towards the environmental credentials. This was acheived using materials such as, Larchwood for cladding the building and porous block paving in the 12,000m2 car park and plant areas. We also installed a Geothermal heating system to the 2,600m2 building, and a fully fitted professional kitchen, serving a beautiful 300 seat restaurant and delicatessen. To maximise storage, a mezzanine floor was added to the warehouse.

Squires are pleased with Vear, as they are very easy to work with, and took a professional view to managing the project.

Despite difficult ground conditions and a host of pre-start planning conditions this proved to be a remarkably smooth project and culminated in a very successful building. We found Vear to be a straight forward, organised and pleasant contractor to work with.
